Overview/ Research interests
Charles’s research is within the overarching topic of environmental health, with a focus on water pollution, ecotoxicology, and public health nexus. He is currently involved in several interdisciplinary collaborative research projects centred on water sustainability, including on the effectiveness of nature-based wastewater treatment systems, environmental and health aspects of wastewater reuse, pollutants of emerging concern such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals and pharmaceuticals,and climate vulnerability assessments in the context of water. He also researches heavy metal pollution from mine tailings, landfills, and urban wastewater and their remediation.
